Oklahoma’s highest rated high school signee will not be making it to campus.
The No. 1 rated high school shortstop and top Sooners class of 2021 signee Ed Howard had been up-and-down MLB mock draft boards leading up to the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft on Wednesday. All the intrigue about a possibility of him ending up in Norman, Oklahoma, when it’s all said and done came to an end halfway through the first round of the MLB Draft.
Howard was selected by the Chicago Cubs with the No. 16 pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.

From when Oklahoma got his signature to Wednesday night, the Sooners never expected him to make it to campus with MLB potential as a high schooler. Howard was a member of a Little League World Series team and became the first player selected in the first round from Illinois since 1997.
Oklahoma will return three-year starting shortstop Brandon Zaragoza for the 2021 season.
