Two is better than one.
Oklahoma’s momentum on the recruiting trail is reaching the public. First, it was five-star wide receiver Mario Williams going public with his commitment. Now? It’s four-star outside linebacker Clayton Smith.
The Texarkana, Texas, native picked the Sooners over a final six that included LSU, Oregon, Florida State and Kentucky. Smith gives defensive coordinator Alex Grinch three head-to-head recruiting battles over Texas for four-star recruits out of the state of Texas since he arrived at Oklahoma in Jan. of 2019.
Here is what the Sooners are getting in the four-star outside linebacker.

Just an impressive athlete. Great size. Great length. Explosive off the snap. Extremely high motor. Physical. His athleticism has allowed him to be able to out-athlete opponents. Needs to bend better around the edge. Little stiff at the hips. Doesn’t show much skill. Definitely a future edge rusher and that’s his best fit in Oklahoma’s defense. Extremely high ceiling, but a lower floor than I think many would like to see. Even better for the Sooners that he didn’t end up at Texas. Need to evaluate in person.
