Lincoln Riley has done a lot of great things over the past 12 months at USC, but when a team loses these big late-season spotlight games — the Pac-12 Championship Game to Utah, when being one win from the College Football Playoff — it stings.
When a team loses the most exciting and interesting football game played on the observed New Year’s Day holiday (the Monday Night Football game was never completed, the Rose Bowl was a dud, and the Citrus Bowl was a complete wipeout), and the attention of the nation is focused on that loss, people are going to talk.
Fans from other schools who want to see USC fail are going to enjoy themselves. Nothing wrong with that. Fair play.
