Oklahoma at No. 10 in penultimate College Football Playoff rankings, likely too far away to jump up

Maybe the Sooners will be too far out of the rankings after all. Oklahoma is at No. 10 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings.

Maybe the Sooners will be too far out of the rankings after all.

There was a glimmer of hope after Florida’s heartbreaking loss to LSU on Saturday that Oklahoma could climb up to position themselves for a move into the top-4. The Sooners were ranked No. 11 in the last College Football Playoff rankings a week ago.

Oklahoma was scheduled to play again against West Virginia in a game that had already been rescheduled. It was canceled, but the game did not hold a ton of weight with a matchup against Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship on the horizon.

Saturday’s game will be a Big 12 Championship with only one team having a shot at making the College Football Playoff. Maybe. Oklahoma came in this week at No. 10, just one spot up. Iowa State moved up one spot to No. 6. Oklahoma State moved up to No. 21 and Texas is at No. 20.

The Sooners are behind No. 7 Florida, No. 8 Georgia and No. 9 Cincinnati. Iowa State is behind No. 5 Texas A&M. It is tough to see either team moving up to No. 4, unless Notre Dame beats Clemson and the College Football Playoff committee says Oklahoma or Iowa State are worthy enough to jump Ohio State and Texas A&M.

Oklahoma and the Cyclones will kickoff on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
