Oklahoma has picked up another preferred walk-on with the addition of Dorian Plumley, a former quarterback and free safety for El Reno High School in El Reno, Okla in the class of 2021.
With the Sooners clearly not in the market for a quarterback, Plumley’s talent on the defensive side is likely what makes him a worthwhile addition. He won’t be the only former quarterback playing in space either, joining H-back Mikey Henderson.
By coincidence or not (likely not), nickelback Brendan Radley-Hiles entered the transfer portal on the same night as Plumley’s announcement via Twitter. With that in mind, it makes sense that Plumley is being added for additional secondary depth.
After a bit of a rough start to the season thanks a handful of missed tackles and blown coverages, Oklahoma’s secondary recovered well and was playing at a very high level by the end of the year. This improvement was characterized in particular by nickelback Tre Norwood, who departed for the NFL Draft in January.
After forming relationships with @CoachBOdom @OU_CoachGundy and deep reconsideration, i would like to announce that i will be committing and continuing my academic & athletic career at the University of Oklahoma ⭕️ #respecfully pic.twitter.com/DkPx0nks6U
