Ronnie Perkins’ impact on Oklahoma’s defense was shown for everyone to see in his absence against LSU in the 2019 Peach Bowl.
The St. Louis native was a four-star recruit according to Rivals out of the 2018 recruiting class. Perkins was the 128th overall prospect, No. 7 strong-side defensive end and No. 5 overall player from the state of Missouri.
He made seven starts as a freshman in 2018, with each of those coming in the last eight games. Perkins’ led Oklahoma with five sacks and was third in tackles for loss. As a sophomore, he started in 13 possible games and was named a second-team All-Big 12 selection before a suspension ended Perkins’ season one game short.
The Sooners are set to lose the budding NFL prospect for the first five games of 2020 due to the suspension at the end of the 2019 season. Lincoln Riley has said no official update on Perkins’ status is available as of May 2020.
