There is a ton of momentum to having a 2020 college football season these days. No definite signs, yet, but the season would start three and a half months from now.
Sooners Wire will be creating player cards for readers to be introduced to the 2020 roster.
Here is the defensive No. 10 on Oklahoma’s roster.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Name: Pat Fields
Number: No. 10
Year: Junior
Position: Safety
Hometown: Tulsa, Oklahoma
Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 196 pounds
With Patrick Fields, consistency is key.
Nothing about what the Junior safety does is flashy, but he was one of the most consistent defenders on the Sooners’ defense last season. This is certainly something defensive coordinator Alex Grinch will appreciate next season.
An in-state three star recruit, Fields played in all 14 games for Oklahoma last season. He finished his sophomore campaign with 44 solo tackles, good for third best on the team. He also had five pass deflections and six tackles for loss.
With a second-year defensive coordinator and three defensive starters gone, consistency in the secondary will be refreshing for Sooners fans. If Fields stays solid or improves, he could firmly earn a place in the NFL Draft.
