Fields’ decision shouldn’t come as a surprise. Although he’s forgoing his senior season of college, it’s expected that he will be one of the top quarterbacks selected in April’s draft. While Trevor Lawrence will more than likely be the No. 1 overall pick, questions remain regarding whether Fields or BYU’s Zach Wilson will be the second quarterback off the board. The Jets currently own the No. 2 pick and are debating Sam Darnold’s future.
Fields put together quite the performance during Ohio State’s 49-28 semifinal win over Clemson. He completed 22-28 passes, throwing for 385 yards with six touchdowns and an interception.
While his performance in the National Championship game against Alabama may have been unimpressive, he played with a significant hip pointer injury.
Fields finished his collegiate career passing for 5,701 yards with 67 touchdowns and nine interceptions between Ohio State and Georgia. He rushed for 1,133 yards and 19 touchdowns.
