Ohio State lands Tennessee target, highly-rated in-state safety.

Ohio State picked up a big commitment on Tuesday, as Nashville product Andre Turrentine committed to the Buckeyes over Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and LSU.

Turrentine is a 4-star prospect on the 247Sports Composite, and is one of the elite safety prospects in the country, as the No. 6 safety in the 2021 recruiting class. Turrentine is also the No. 3 prospect in the state of Tennessee.

Out of Ensworth High School, Turrentine partnered in the defensive backfield with 2020 Tennessee safety signee Keshawn Lawrence, but the connection was not enough to pry Turrentine away from heading to Columbus. Defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley has been working as Turrentine’s primary recruiter, with help from wide receivers coach Tee Martin.

Recently named Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs led the charge for Turrentine’s commitment. Coombs had spent the last two seasons in Nashville, as the defensive backs coach for the Tennessee Titans under Mike Vrabel.

While Tennessee will very likely continue to recruit Turrentine, the Vols may have to look elsewhere for a highly-rated defensive back.
