Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown will be one of four players suiting up for the 2024 Slam Dunk contest, the NBA announced Thursday. It had previously been reported Brown was “seriously considering” taking part in the competition earlier in the week before it was made official by the league today.
Brown headlines the group for this year’s dunk contest, which will be held as part of All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis on Saturday, Feb 17. Brown joins Jaime Jaquez Jr. of the Miami Heat, Jacob Toppin of the New York Knicks, and the reigning champion Mac McClung of the Osceola Magic of the NBA G League. Brown will become the first All-Star to take part in the Dunk Contest since 2017.
So far this season, Brown ranks third in the NBA among players his size in total dunks. And indeed, he has a number of high-profile poster slams on his resume. Whether or not he has the bounce or creativity is another story, as showmanship is a critical component of the Dunk Contest.
