Offensive, Defensive Players of the Week from LSU’s win over Vanderbilt

The defending national champion LSU Tigers got back on track last with a 41-7 victory over Vanderbilt to move to 1-1 on the season.

Syndication: The Tennessean

Offense: RB John Emery Jr.

We could’ve gone with Brennan here. The junior quarterback was outstanding in the win.

However, it is sophomore running back John Emery Jr. who is LSU’s offensive player of the week.

Emery Jr., a 5-foot-11 sophomore from St. Rose, La., rushed for a career-high 103 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Emery Jr., who was expected to share time with Chris Curry and Tyrion Davis-Price, received the bulk of the carries when Curry missed the game due to an illness.

LSU’s running game sputtered in the opening week loss to Mississippi State. Part of the issue could be constantly rotating the backs in and out instead of riding with the hot hand.

Emery Jr. was the hot hand in the win over Vanderbilt and deserves the opportunity to start in this week’s game against Missouri, whether Curry returns or not.
