Remember last year when Notre Dame’s home opener against Toledo was available only on Peacock? Afterwards, it appeared that this only was an experimental thing or at least something to promote NBC’s new streaming service. Well, you’ll have to help your relatives and friends who know nothing about streaming again. That’s because when the Irish play UNLV on Oct. 22, the game only will be available on Peacock and not on NBC.
NBC’s relationship with Notre Dame has been great for the most part, but this is just a slap in the face to a certain segment of the fan base. This seems to be happening for Irish road games, too. 2019 was the last season my grandmother was alive for, and I have no idea if she even was able to tune into the ACC Network game against Duke. She never got a full grasp on new technology, so I have little doubt she would have had a lot of trouble figuring out Peacock.
NBC, and really all sports networks, have to be better than this. Never mind that UNLV isn’t the most attractive opponent. Even one game that’s difficult to find for some people is too much. Until it’s proven that streaming live sports is far better than watching it on live TV, keep streaming exclusivity for high-profile teams away from our games.
