Observations from Tennessee’s win at Kentucky in Week 9

Observations from Tennessee’s win at Kentucky in Week 9.

Saturday marked the 119th meeting between Tennessee and Kentucky.

No. 20 Tennessee (6-2, 3-2 SEC) defeated Kentucky (5-3, 2-3 SEC), 33-27, at Kroger Field in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Vols and Wildcats have now played in every season since 1944. Tennessee leads the all time series on the field, 84-26-9, and are 40-15-3 on the field in games contested at Kentucky.

“They played for four quarters and didn’t play perfectly,” third-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said. “A lot of things that we can do better in every phase, but they played hard. We were physical, and we talked about having to win the fourth quarter. Felt like we won the fourth quarter tonight. That was a good job finishing the football game, all three phases, and a really nice drive at the end of it by the offense to go during the clock.

“Proud of our football team for answering back, and I told them we’ve got to continue to get better, too. There’s a lot left on the back third of the season, and there’s a lot of things we can control that we got to be better at.”
