Notre Dame’s Niego named All-American

An outstanding accomplishment for a star Notre Dame athlete.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Junior outside hitter Charley Niego has been named an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American for the second time in her career, the AVCA announced Wednesday morning (April 21).

Niego, who was named an honorable mention All-American, also earned AVCA All-American honorable mention accolades as a freshman in 2018.

Niego also earned her third consecutive AVCA East Coast All-Region honor this season and was named First Team All-ACC for the second straight year.

Niego racked up a team-high 244 kills to go with a hitting percentage of .253, 179 digs, and a team-best 27 service aces in the 2020-21 campaign. The Chicago, Illinois, native finished with nine double-doubles in the shortened season, including eight in Notre Dame’s 12 spring matches. Niego’s efforts included a trio of 15-15 performances, including a 19 kill, 18 dig effort against Syracuse on October 2.
