The contest in Atlanta between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets hasn’t exactly been a back-and-forth shootout, but momentum has mattered. Just ask Notre Dame safety Xavier Watts.
It looked like Notre Dame had the momentum it needed to close out the ballgame with a 21-7 lead after defensive lineman Bryce Young blocked a field goal. But the Yellow Jackets responded by stopping Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard from running for a first down on fourth-and-5.
On the second play of the ensuing drive, Yellow Jackets QB Zach Pyron’s pass was picked off by Watts.
The Irish are working hard to close out a pesky Georgia Tech team and still lead 21-7 late.
