One of the huge story going into bowl preparation was the dismissal of Chip Long as offensive coordinator and what it meant for Notre Dame’s offense.
Although believed for a while, it was officially announced this week that Tommy Rees would call the plays for the Saturday affair.
I didn’t love everything early but he did do what my pre-game requests were in being able to isolate one of Claypool, Lenzy or Kmet and to exploit an Iowa State defense who didn’t have play-makers that could defend any of those three one-on-one.
Claypool’s monster stats speak to that being accomplished while as much I got annoyed early with some of the constant, horizontal run plays, they did help keep Iowa State’s ends from selling out in the pass rush.
It wasn’t perfect by any means but if it is indeed Rees who officially gets the gig I won’t feel bad about it, I still do hope an actual search is done however just to see what else might be out there and to perhaps learn a thing or two about yourself along the way.
