Notre Dame Represented on College Football’s Five Fastest Players List

A Notre Dame player who has never played a collegiate snap is ranked as the fourth fastest in the nation

“You can’t teach speed!”

No matter what level of football you watch you’ve certainly heard this at some point.

“Speed – some guys have it and others don’t!”

If you somehow missed the first quote you certainly have heard the later.

On that thought, Bleacher Report’s Tyler Brooke rated the Five Fastest Players in college football for 2020 and Notre Dame was represented.  By who though surprised me as I clicked on the piece just waiting to come across Braden Lenzy.

Spoiler Alert:  I didn’t.

Instead, Brooke ranks a Notre Dame player who has never played a collegiate snap as the fourth fastest in the nation.  That player being none other than incoming freshman, Chris Tyree.

That speed has been well-documented thanks to The Opening back in July. Tyree’s athleticism was on full display as he posted a 38.2-inch vertical and a blazing 40-yard dash time of 4.38 seconds.

As a true freshman, Tyree may not get enough touches for us to get a good look at his speed. However, as he continues to acclimate himself to the college game, it shouldn’t surprise anyone when he establishes himself as one of the fastest players out there. – Bleacher Report’s Tyler Brooke on Chris Tyree

I disagree a bit with the lack of touches just because of of what needs replaced.  Tony Jones, Jr., Chase Claypool, Cole Kmet and Chris Finke are all gone and accounted for 311 touches on their own a season ago.  I know different positions but if Tyree is anywhere near what he’s hyped to be, he’ll find his way on the field.

Either way, Notre Dame is a long way from what
