When news came that Notre Dame and Georgia Tech’s game was moving from the Mercedes-Benz Dome to Bobby Dodd Stadium on Tech’s campus my head immediately went to the last time Notre Dame played there.
It was the 2006 opener and played in prime-time in front of a national audience. Notre Dame entered ranked second nationally behind only Ohio State and primed for a national championship run.
A slug-fest played out that Notre Dame was able to sneak out of with a 14-10 win. If you remember watching that game you probably remember a two things:
- Brady Quinn’s keeper for a touchdown just before halftime to finally get the Irish on the board and cut the Tech lead to 10-7.
- Darius Walker’s go-ahead/game-winning touchdown run.
- Chinedum Ndukwe’s hit on Calvin Johnson
So why not relive that hit for a moment?

Johnson still had a huge night as he pulled down seven receptions for 111 yards and Georgia Tech’s only touchdown, but the Irish prevailed 14-10 and escaped Atlanta 1-0.
