Notre Dame quarterback transfer Tyler Buchner is expected to visit Alabama on Tuesday night.
Buchner spent the past two seasons at Notre Dame and played under Tommy Rees, who was Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator from 2020-2022. Rees was hired to be Alabama’s offensive coordinator in February.
According to 247Sports’ Chris Hummer, Buchner also had a “no-contact tag.” Meaning, other schools are prohibited from reaching out. In all likelihood, Buchner has a destination picked out or has a list of schools that he would prefer to transfer to.
Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson had respectable performances at the 2023 Alabama A-Day spring game, but neither separated themself as the clear QB1.
Buchner passed for 949 yards and six touchdowns while also throwing eight interceptions in two seasons with the Fighting Irish.
Alabama recruited Buchner out of high school. He was ranked as the No. 5 overall quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class, according to 247Sports‘ composite rankings.
Needless to say, the potential is there. It will be up to the coaching staff to decide if Buchner is fit for the program and its needs for the upcoming season.
Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding Alabama football and its involvement in the transfer portal.
