Notre Dame placed in second tier of title contenders

The Irish once again are viewed as title contenders

Preseason hype for Notre Dame’s title chances continues to build.

While all preseason predictions should be taken with heavy doses of salt — unexpected things can and do happen — another influential college football account on social media has given the Fighting Irish a good chance at taking home the hardware.

College Football Report has put out its listing of national title contenders, organized by tiers. Notre Dame is in Tier 2 along with Ole Miss and Michigan.

Tier 1 is Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, and Alabama.

One level below the Irish in Tier 3 sit Penn State, Missouri, Florida State, Utah, LSU, Clemson, Tennennesse, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Boise State.

There are six total tiers, with Tier 4 being “Darkhorse Contenders”. Those include USC, Miami, Kansas, Arizona, and Virginia Tech.

One can quibble with any one outlet’s predictions. That said, with an expanded College Football Playoff, more teams have a shot at the title than ever.
