Notre Dame misses out to home-state for star tight end

Can’t win them all…

The top-ranked player in the 2024 recruiting class from the state of Nebraska is staying home.  Tight end Carter Nelson committed to the Cornhuskers on Wednesday, choosing them over Notre Dame, Georgia, Penn State, and others.

Nelson ranks as a four-star product from Ainsworth, where he stars on their eight-man football team.

For Notre Dame, the Irish still have 21 commitments in the 2024 recruiting class and what is currently viewed as a top-five class.  Jack Larsen of Charlotte Catholic remains the only tight end for the Fighting Irish in this class.

Many seemed to expect Nelson to stay home after a recent visit to Nebraska was said to have gone well.
