Not all records are for highs as some are for lows. That very well could be the case the first Saturday in December when No. 2 Notre Dame plays host to Syracuse.
That’s because what’s already been a season with limited crowds at Notre Dame Stadium will see an even more limited number of attendees than were available for the first five games this season.
So far this season Notre Dame has allowed only students, faculty, and families of both teams to attend home games this season. This year has seen attendances between 10,182 (Louisville) and 11,011 (Clemson) in the five home games to date.
Notre Dame’s classes ended this week which means no students will be on campus for the home finale against Syracuse. Tickets will be available to a very select few for the December 5 contest as attendance will be limited to faculty and staff and the immediate members of their households as well as players’ families.
Tickets will be complimentary and no tickets will be available to the public.
The 1933 season opener against Kansas is the current record for lowest attendance at Notre Dame Stadium as just 9,221 spectators showed up for what wound up being a scoreless tie.
Based off the limited availability for the December 5 game against Syracuse, it certainly would appear we’re headed to see a record low attendance figure in the 90 year history of The House that Rockne Built.
