Notre Dame football is on the wrong end of a home-favorite stat

Not a stat the Irish want to be leading in

Saturday marked the third time that Notre Dame football has lost as a heavy home favorite, as the Irish fell to Northern Illinois early on Saturday night.

Following the game, many have been up in arms about Notre Dame’s performance and Fox Sports Chris Fallica found a very interesting stat that he shared on social media. Those three losses that the Irish have suffered have all been when they have been more than 16-point favorites, the most in a nation since the start of the 2022 season.

This is clearly not the stat that we all want to see Notre Dame at the top of, but it reiterates the fact that under [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag], the Irish have lost games they should have won.

Northern Illinois Huskies kicker Kanon Woodill kicks the game winning field goal in the fourth quarter against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

While Freeman addressed the issue in his post-game media session, it still doesn’t excuse the fact that these losses have happened. Hopefully, the third time is a charm, and this is corrected sooner than later.
