Notre Dame football gets another high slot in a power ranking

An updated top-25 that unsurprisingly has the Irish high on the chart

The Notre Dame football team continues to get love from analysts as rankings and polls roll out following a surprising Week 0.

There’s an obvious caveat here — very few teams played a game over the weekend, and the only [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag] contender that kicked off is Florida State. The Seminoles lost to Georgia Tech 24-21 on Saturday.

With Week 1 getting rolling this weekend, college football analyst and pundit Josh Pate of CBS Sports has put together his Week 1 power rankings. He has Notre Dame as his No. 8 team in the country.

His top five are Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, and Alabama. Florida State remains in his top-25 at No. 20.

Irish fans who want to troll their Wolverine-fan friends will note that Michigan is one spot behind Notre Dame at No. 9.

Surprises in Pate’s power ranking might include Penn State at No. 6, Ole Miss at No. 7, and Wisconsin at No. 23.

Florida State’s loss likely factors in — the Seminoles would almost certainly been higher had they not been stunned in Dublin.
