Good news and bad news for you this afternoon, Notre Dame football fans.
We’ll start with the good.
The Fighting Irish football team has got down to the maximum 85 scholarship players on the roster for the 2020 season.
Now the bad news (aside from the football program suspending operations today):
It’s because former four-star recruit and top 125 overall player in the 2019 class, offensive lineman John Olmstead has entered the transfer portal.

Olmstead did not see the field as a freshman but was in the discussion to make the second-team depth chart in 2020.
Olmstead, a New Jersey native, previously listed LSU, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Rutgers and Wisconsin in his top ten before eventually commuting to Notre Dame.
Of Notre Dame’s 85 scholarship players, 15 are now offensive linemen. Although you hate to see talent depart the blow is softened by the strong offensive line classes in both 2020 and 2021.
