It didn’t take long for Notre Dame football to impose its will on host Purdue, as they raced ahead to a 42-0 halftime lead to coast to a 66-7 victory.
The Irish scored touchdowns on five of their seven drives in the first half, highlighted by quarterback Riley Leonard three scores on the ground. The defense added a touchdown as well, as defensive lineman Boubacar Traore took an errand pass back for a 34-yard pick-6.
While the scoring did slow down for Notre Dame in the second half, the game was already in hand. The win improves the Irish’s record to 2-1 on the year.
On offense, Notre Dame rolled up 578-yards while allowing just 162-yards on defense. It was the first time since 2000 against USC that the Irish had four different runners score a touchdown. They also handed Purdue its worst defeat in school history according to Notre Dame football’s Press Release team.
Notre Dame returns to the field next Saturday as they will host Miami of Ohio at 2:30 p.m. EST.
