No. 1 LSU enters the National Championship game at 14-0 and fresh off blowout victories over Georgia in the SEC Championship Game before obliterating No. 4 Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl, 63-28 in a game that was nowhere near as close as the score indicated.
Why should a Notre Dame fan root for LSU?
First off they’re not only a fun team to watch but are incredibly talented to boot. Joe Burrow gets the love and deserves every bit of it but the LSU secondary is as good as defensive backfield as you’ll find. It will entertain you all night if you’re into such things as Derek Stingley, Jr. and Grant Delpit headline a talented field.
The main interest to LSU winning for Notre Dame fans however would be head coach Ed Orgeron taking home a national title. Why? Because USC literally had him as their interim head coach in 2013 before the job officially went to Steve Sarkisian that off-season. It’d be a great way to see this off-season go even slightly worse for the Notre Dame’s biggest rival.
Why shouldn’t a Notre Dame fan root for LSU?
If you’re anything like me you’re sick and tired of hearing that chant “SEC, SEC, SEC!”
Listen, I get the Southeastern Conference is great and puts loads of talent in the NFL annually. It does get old being reminded how great everything SEC related is however.
My reason for Notre Dame fans to root against LSU isn’t so much because of anything school-specific as much as it is rooting against the SEC, something the majority of the country probably has no problem doing.
