Notre Dame falls late to Ohio State in series finale

Despite outplaying Ohio State for five periods this weekend, Notre Dame took just one of two games after a third period collapse Sunday.

Notre Dame’s hockey was 20 minutes from a weekend sweep of Ohio State and four minutes into Sunday’s third period appeared to be extending their lead to 3-1 on the Buckeyes.

Charlie Raith’s would-be goal was called off however due to a hit from behind delivered Notre Dame’s Ryder Rolston.

Quinn Preston then answered with the game-tying goal for Ohio State moments later before netting another goal to give the Buckeyes the lead just 45 seconds later.

It’s a disappointing end to a weekend where the Irish appeared in control for five of six periods but everything changed when Raith’s goal was called off.

Notre Dame falls to 4-4-0 on the year and return to action Saturday night when they host Michigan State in a game that can be seen on NBCSN.
