Notre Dame destroys Pitt – FIW staff game-balls

Who were the standout players for Notre Dame in their dominating win over Pitt? The Fighting Irish Wire staff hands out their game balls.

Offense – Ben Skowronek

It was a tough call but I also went with Skowronek on a day that was a coming out party of sorts for the Notre Dame wide receivers.  I also thought Ian Book played a very good game and his ability to run can’t be understated here, but Skowronek had the chance to make a couple of big plays and he went and made them flat-out gamechangers.

Defense – Bo Bauer

This one could have gone a hand-full of different ways as the defensive line did a fantastic job again against the run and the Irish held Pitt to just three points, the third time in five tries they’ve limited an opponent to just seven points or fewer.

Bauer did a solid job helping stop the run on Saturday but it was him dropping back in coverage and coming up with an interception that helped him secure game ball honors in my eyes, although it was one of three Irish interceptions on the afternoon.
