Geoffrey Clark’s Game Balls for Pitt Game:
Offensive: Ben Skowronek
He only made two receptions, but they both went for long touchdowns. The Fort Wayne native and Northwestern transfer barely registered on the radar before this game, but opponents will have to watch for him now, especially as the Irish get thinner at receiver. His bang-bang plays set the tone for the Irish’s pass game, which finally got the big performance that previously had eluded it. Whether this carries over for the rest of the season remains to be seen, but it’s a good start.
Defensive: Bo Bauer
Joey Yellen probably will be praying that he never has to see this linebacker again. Not only did Bauer hit him once, but he was responsible for the first of three Irish interceptions. The defense already was having a fantastic game, but Bauer’s pick ascended the unit to an even higher level. If nothing else, Bauer gets this game ball for being a catalyst for pure dominance.
