When [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] signed German defensive end [autotag]Alexander Ehrensberger[/autotag], he was one of the unique cases where a player outside of the United States has the ability to play college football.
His frame alone was tantalizing, standing 6-foot, 6-inches and weighing 238 pounds. Many expect him to make a solid impact on the Irish program. However, during Ehrensberger’s three seasons with the Irish, he played sparingly, totaling 7 tackles and two sacks.
On Friday, he announced that his playing career was over, not due to injury but to pursue a medical degree back in his home country. It was a bit of a surprise, as Ehrensberger still had one season of eligibility left, but after recently graduating with a dual-major, he will head back to Germany.
