So consider that a really long-winded way of answering the question that started this post as an overwhelming “YES!”.
If I could pick one of my favorite teams to win a championship it’d easily be Notre Dame football. They won in 1988 but I was far too young to remember it. I want them to win it all again more than I want anything else in sports.
However, just because they didn’t accomplish that this decade doesn’t mean it wasn’t an incredibly successful last ten years.
When Charlie Weis was canned and Kelly was brought it there were questions about how much Notre Dame could ever even matter again, let alone if they could win.
2019 is the third straight season the Irish will have won 10 or more games, something they’ve now down four times under Kelly and a feat that even Lou Holtz only accomplished one more time than that.
The bar has been raised in a big way over the last decade for the Fighting Irish.
They still lack a huge win over a top-five team but it’ll eventually come, much like I hope another national championship will also eventually come.
But in the mean time, instead of complaining about what hasn’t been done, it’d probably be healthy to look around and realize how much has been done in the last ten years and how much more optimistic you can be entering the new decade you can be than you probably were entering this one as a Notre Dame fan.
