Unfortunately for the Irish were unable to complete the weekend sweep of the Alamo Irish Classic, but anytime you take 2 of 3 in a series, it’s still a productive weekend. Early on in Link Jarrett’s tenure, his Notre Dame squad has shown a marked improvement over last years team.
FINAL: UTSA 4, Notre Dame 1
The Irish dropped their final game of the Alamo Irish Classic. They will be back in action next Friday when they travel to Presbyterian for a three-game series.

After two weekend series the Irish’s record sits at 4-2, a stark difference from last years 2-5 start. UTSA’s runs were all unearned as sloppy Notre Dame defense didn’t help as SS Zack Prajzner and 3B Jack Brannigan both committed errors. The offense struggled to get going against the Roadrunners, only plating a single run when C Jack Alexander drove in LF Ryan Cole.
Starter Alex Rao faired better than his first start, going 4.2 IP’s and striking out 6. Reliever Joe Boyle was wild, walking 4 batters and was on the mound when UTSA scored 3 of their 4 runs. Mitch Megias came in for Boyle, also gave up an unearned run to get to the final tally.
Although this game didn’t go the Irish’s way, the weekend was still won. Jarrett should be very happy with his team’s early efforts, especially having to travel for the first portion of the season. The Irish get back on the field on Friday afternoon with a 3 game series against Presbyterian in Clinton, South Carolina.
