Notes, observations from Colts’ Week 18 unofficial depth chart

Here are the key notes and observations from the Colts’ Week 18 depth chart ahead of their matchup vs. the Jaguars.

The Indianapolis Colts have released their unofficial depth chart for the team’s Week 18 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

So, what notes and observations can be made from this week’s edition?

The caveat to this, of course, is that it is unofficial. So, playing time on Sunday may not exactly align with everything we are seeing here. In addition to that, now 16 games into the NFL season, it’s not as if there are many surprises either.

But having said that, there are always a few observations that can be made.

Colts Offense

  • WR: Michael Pittman Jr., Ashton Dulin
  • LT: Bernhard Raimann, Blake Freeland
  • LG: Quenton Nelson, Danny Pinter OR Tanor Bortolini
  • C: Ryan Kelly, Danny Pinter OR Tanor Bortolini
  • RG: Mark Glowinski, Tanor Bortolini OR Dalton Tucker
  • RT: Matt Goncalves
  • TE: Mo Alie-Cox, Drew Ogletree
  • TE: Kylen Granson, Will Mallory
  • WR: Josh Downs, Anthony Gould
  • WR: Alec Pierce OR Adonai Mitchell
  • QB: Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco, Sam Ehlinger
  • RB: Jonathan Taylor, Trey Sermon, Tyler Goodson

Quick Takeaways

– A trend in recent weeks is that Drew Ogletree has been out-snapping Mo Alie-Cox–and Kylen Granson–at the tight end position. Alie-Cox is set to be a free agent in 2025 while Ogletree is still under contract.

– This depth chart showcases just how thin the Colts are at tackle without Braden Smith.

– The backup left guard and center is listed as Danny Pinter or Tanor Bortolini, but in most instances this season, it’s been Bortolini who has filled in.

– It’s also not an or’ situation at receiver either between Alec Pierce and AD Mitchell. Pierce has played 753 snaps in 2024 to Mitchell’s 367.

Colts Defense

  • DE: Kwity Paye, Laiatu Latu
  • DT: DeForest Buckner, Taven Bryan, Adetomiwa Adebawore
  • NT: Grover Stewart, Raekwon Davis
  • DE: Dayo Odeyingbo, Tyquan Lewis, Isaiah Land
  • WLB: E.J. Speed, Grant Stuard
  • MLB: Zaire Franklin, Segun Olubi
  • SAM: Jaylon Carlies, Cameron McGrone
  • CB: Samuel Womack III, David Long Jr.
  • FS: Julian Blackmon, Rodney Thomas II
  • SS: Nick Cross, Ronnie Harrison Jr.
  • N: Kenny Moore II, Chris Lammons
  • CB: Jaylon Jones

Quick Takeaways

– Similarly to tackle, you can see how thin the Colts are at boundary cornerback, which has really been the case all season. Hopefully they can get JuJu Brents back for a game to get him some valuable playing time–although it will be interesting to see where those snaps come from.

– Since Tyquan Lewis has returned from IR, he has been listed as a backup behind Dayo Odeyingbo. Through four games, he was starting opposite of Kwity Paye.

– Going heavy and rostering six linebackers is, in part, why the Colts are thin at tackle or cornerback. If you go heavy at one position, then you have to go light elsewhere.

Special Teams

  • P: Rigoberto Sanchez
  • PK: Matt Gay
  • H: Rigoberto Sanchez
  • LS: Luke Rhodes
  • KR: Tyler Goodson, Anthony Gould, Ashton Dulin
  • PR: Josh Downs, Anthony Gould

Quick Takeaways

– The big takeaway here is that even with the Colts healthy at the receiver position last week with the return of Ashton Dulin, they kept Anthony Gould active and he continued to be the return man. After losing that job through the middle portion of the season, he’s regained that role through more decisive decision-making with the ball in his hands.
