The North Carolina Tar Heels will get a look at a Final Four team from a year ago ahead of the 2023-24 college basketball season. While UNC is set to play defending national champion UConn in a non-conference game, they will have a secret scrimmage against another team that almost cut down the nets.
Per Inside Carolina, the Tar Heels will face off against the Florida Atlantic Owls in an exhibition game. These games are an annual thing now and are called “secret scrimmages” as UNC has participated in them before. No spectators are allowed in these scrimmages and there is limited information available after that.

North Carolina did host Rutgers in a secret scrimmage last season and was in Florida prior to that for a game. They have also faced off against Villanova in the past.
This will be a good chance for Hubert Davis and the coaching staff to see the talent they have on the floor for the upcoming season, against a team that is expected to be a top 10 team again this year. It will also allow them to see how they fare in situations during the scrimmage.
FAU was a No. 9 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament and went all the way to the Final Four before losing to San Diego State. They will return all five starters.
