Football and men’s basketball get most of the attention at UNC, but what casual fans may not realize is North Carolina’s dominance across most sports.
The Diamond Heels are a perfect example of this dominance, as they recently made their 13th College World Series appearance in program history. UNC sports arguably the nation’s greatest women’s soccer and field hockey programs, while women’s lacrosse isn’t too far behind. Did we mention North Carolina has quite the men’s golf program, too?
The above are only a few of the Tar Heels’ successful teams, but not the only ones.
For its overall success in the 2023-2024 season alone, UNC athletics will be highlighted Friday, July 12 for 24 hours on the ACC Network, as part of its annual School Takeover event.
Remember when North Carolina’s women’s basketball team upset then-sixth-ranked NC State in Carmichael Arena? How about the late-inning baseball comeback – against reigning national champion LSU – in the Chapel Hill Regional Final? British Brooks’ long-awaited return to the football field, when he ran for over 100 yards in the Tar Heels’ 2023 season-opening, 31-17 victory over South Carolina?
Each of the above moments will be on the ACC Network, with coverage starting at 12 a.m. on Friday and ending at 11:59 p.m..
