Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels have landed another commitment from the transfer portal as the month of January is off to a fast start.
On Monday, the Tar Heels were able to land a commitment from East Carolina defensive back Gavin Gibson. He officially visited UNC this past weekend and it didn’t take long from him to make a decision as he will finish his career in Chapel Hill.
The Mooresville (N.C.) native originally committed to Maryland in 2022, appearing in 20 games over two seasons before transferring to East Carolina where he played just the 2024 season.
With a need in the secondary, North Carolina has hit the transfer portal hard this offseason. It has become one of the focus spots for Belichick and his staff so far.

Gibson’s commitment is the 12th in the cycle for the Tar Heels, coming a day after they landed former Prairie View A&M offensive tackle William Boone.
The job isn’t done yet either for the Tar Heels. They still have big needs to fill on the roster and should be active moving forward trying to fill those needs.
