North Carolina baseball finishes season in top 5 in D1Baseball poll

Here is where the UNC baseball program ranks in the D1Baseball.com’s end of season poll.

The North Carolina Tar Heels’ baseball program was able to reach Omaha and the College World Series in 2024 and despite not winning it all, it was a successful season for Scott Forbes‘ team.

After beating LSU in a Game 7 in the regional and then sweeping West Virginia in the Super Regional, the Tar Heels punched their ticket to Omaha as one of the eight teams left. Now, as the season is over, UNC has earned a ranking in the top five by D1Baseball.com for the season-ending poll.

The site ranked UNC No. 4 overall, which was down one spot from their No. 3 ranking going into the College World Series:

The Tar Heels turned Chapel Hill into Chapel Thrill in the NCAA Tournament. In winning home regionals and super regionals, they won two games on walk-offs and two other games by one run. UNC advanced to the College World Series for the first time since 2018 and the first time under fourth-year coach Scott Forbes. In Omaha, UNC went 1-2, losing to Tennessee and Florida State.

UNC had a tough side of the bracket, beating Virginia before falling to Tennessee and Florida State. The Vols eventually went on to win the College World Series, beating Texas A&M in three games.

Overall, the season was a success for the Tar Heels as Forbes hopes the program can build on this appearance in Omaha for next year.
