Norfolk State hiring Michael Vick as head football coach

Michael Vick is going to be the head football coach at Norfolk State, according to a report

As a wise man once sang, kind of, it’s been a long strange trip for Michael Vick en route to becoming head football coach at Norfolk State.

The Virginian Pilot reported Tuesday that the former No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft and current FOX Sports NFL panelist has agreed to contract terms to take over the role with the Spartans.

Per the Pilot’s David Teel

A Newport News native and four-time NFL Pro Bowler, Vick, 44, has never coached, which will make staff composition paramount. Vick has already reached out to potential assistant coaches and support staff, sources said, and some of his hires likely will be familiar to fans.

Vick replaces Dawson Odums, whom the Spartans dismissed last month after a four-season run in which the program went 15-30.

Meanwhile Sacramento State, which was pursuing Vick went in another direction.
