Nobody has had to endure what Arkansas has this year and the Hogs deserve some credit

If Arkansas is truly better than its record, the upcoming schedule should be a blessing.

Football Bowl Subdivision is comprised of 133 teams. A grand total of two have a part of their schedule in which they aren’t at home for a month.

Only one plays in the SEC.

Arkansas is finally finished with the road trip from hell. The Razorbacks came out of it with a D+. Arkansas lost all four games, but only one, Texas A&M, resulted in the Razorbacks losing by more than a possession. And even it was close for a while.

No one likes close, though. In fact, close can be misleading because it’s irrelevant to a team’s record. There is no Pythogorean record in college football and definitely not one that matters.

“Obviously we didn’t win any of the games, so that would be the biggest disappointment,” Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said. “However, I do think we’re getting a little bit better. We have four of the next five at home. We still have some of our goals left that we had at the beginning of the year.

Arkansas is back in the Boston Mountains on Saturday against a team also badly needing a victory in Mississippi State. After that, the Hogs get a rest with the bye week before returning for a game at Florida and closing with Auburn, Florida International and Missouri all at home.

Pittman is taking the lessons of the road back home, too. He thinks the Razorbacks are in better position now than they were a month ago, even with five straight losses on the ledger.

“That’s a hard stretch,” Pittman said. “Wish we could have made a dent in the win-column on that. But I do think our team is better than when we last played here at home.”
