No, the Steelers shouldn’t trade for Derek Carr

Derek Carr is on the trading block and Pittsburgh doesn’t need him.

Every time a player is available, there is always a segment of the Pittsburgh Steelers fan base who needs to chime in that the Steelers should sign/trade for him. With uncertainty at the backup quarterback position for the 2023 season, the next name that is sure to come up will be Las Vegas Raiders  Derek Carr.

According to Raiders writer Vic Tafur, Las Vegas will release Carr after Feb. 15 if the team cannot find a trade partner. Carr has a no-trade clause in his contract.

Are the Steelers going to need a backup quarterback? They just might. Mason Rudolph is a free agent, and Mitch Trubisky seems like an easy candidate to cut loose to save salary cap. But Carr isn’t the answer if that happens. No matter where he lands, he’s going there expecting to be the starter and to get paid like the starter. Pittsburgh’s future is bright with Kenny Pickett at quarterback, so the team is under no pressure to go looking for help at the position.
