No one should be concerned about Malachi Nelson after USC spring game

It’s way too early to worry about a freshman QB. @TrojanConquests and @LBCTrojan have more at the @VoiceOfCFB.

The most obvious point to raise in the wake of Malachi Nelson’s bumpy ride at the USC football spring game is that he is just beginning to taste college football. It’s early. Freshmen are supposed to make mistakes.

Beyond that point, however, there are a few other details which ought to be unpacked. One is that Nelson hasn’t been fully healthy in recent months. An athlete dealing with recovery — even an experienced one — needs to be given time to work his way back into form.

The other point, raised by USC commentator and former Trojan wide receiver John Jackson at The Voice of College Football, is that the speed of the college game is a huge adjustment for any top high school prospect.

Listen to John on Trojan Conquest Live, the new USC show at The Voice of College Football, with co-hosts Tim Prangley and Rick Anaya. Trojan Conquest Live airs every Sunday at 8 p.m. Eastern and 5 p.m. Pacific.
