No MACtion in 2020 as the Mid-American Conference cancels fall football

The weeknight games in the fall will be missed

Weeknights in mid-October just got a little colder. There will be no MACtion in 2020.

The presidents of the member schools of the Mid-American Conference, or MAC, voted to cancel the fall football season due to concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic. There is some indication that the schools might attempt to play football in the spring, though that has yet to be determined.

The MAC already took a major hit when the Big Ten Conference opted to cancel all nonconference games. Those “guarantee games” are major revenue sources for MAC football programs.

This marks the first FBS-level conference that will not play in the fall. Two FCS-level conferences have already done the same, and some players have already indicated they will transfer to schools that are playing this fall. Expect the same from MAC players, especially those with NFL aspirations.
