Recapping MSU’s opening series against Lake Superior State:

Michigan State hockey is off and running in a highly anticipated season, the second of Adam Nightingale’s tenure in East Lansing. The Spartans are coming into the season as the No. 9 ranked team in the nation, with high expectations and aspirations.

The Spartans made it known that they are ready to live up to those expectations with their opening series against Lake Superior State.

Game One – W 5-2

In game one, MSU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, and kept the same energy and pressure throughout the game. MSU held off an LSSU comeback attempt, and scored two third period goals to win 5-2.

Game Two – W 4-2

The second game of the weekend was much closer, with the two teams staying within a goal of each other until an empty netter by the Spartans ended the matchup 4-2 for the host.

MSU will look to carry their momentum on the road against Air Force next weekend.
