For the seventh and final time this season the eighth-ranked Notre Dame baseball team took on a Big Ten team Tuesday and for the sixth time in those seven tries, walked out victorious.
It was early, often, and all day for Notre Dame as all nine starters had a hit for the Fighting Irish in their 14-4 road victory over Northwestern.
The Irish opened the scoring by singling the Wildcats to death in the top of the second as RBI singles by Jack Penney, Jack Zyska, and Spencer Meyers gave an early 4-0 advantage. Jack Brannigan would get in on the action an inning later as an RBI double by him extended the lead to 6-0 before he’d steal home a few pitches later for the third time in his Notre Dame career.
The win moves Notre Dame to 32-11 overall on the year as the Irish now head to Miami for a three-game series starting Thursday that will pit the ACC Coastal and ACC Atlantic division leaders against each other.
