No. 8 Arkansas splits doubleheader against No. 19 Arizona

Hannah Gammill’s walk-off earned Arkansas one win, but a big Arizona inning in the second game forced a split.

The first two games of Arkansas’ six-game weekend took place Thursday in Bogle Park as No. 19 Arizona played the eighth-ranked Razorbacks in a doubleheader.

Arkansas took the opener, 3-2, in walk-off fashion as Hannah Gammill’s RBI single scored Reagan Johnson in the bottom of the seventh.

Johnson had a bout of fortune as she had actually struck out to lead off the inning but reached first on a passed ball. After a sacrifice bunt and a groundout, she was on third base with two outs as Gammill stepped in.

Arizona had tied things in the top of the inning when Devyn Netz hit a two-run home run with just one out in the frame. Arkansas starter Chenise Delce allowed a single in the next at-bat before getting a strikeout and a groundout to keep the game tied headed into the bottom.

The Wildcats took the second game, 5-2. A four-run fourth inning saw Arizona bat around the lineup as Netz’s second homer of the day was the big shot of the inning. Arkansas had led 2-0 to that point.

The Razorbacks’ break is short as they’re back for two more on Friday. Arkansas plays Drake at 1:30 p.m. and follows with a final game against Arizona immediately after.
