In need of a bounce-back performance after falling to No. 5 UCLA on Friday, the No. 3 Colorado Buffaloes women’s basketball team outlasted the No. 6 USC Trojans on Sunday, 63-59.
The Buffs got a great inside/outside game from forward Quay Miller and point guard Jaylyn Sherrod. Sherrod scored 17 points and delivered an incredible pass for her lone assist of the game, hitting Aaronette Vonleh to give the Buffs a late two-point lead. Miller exploded for 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double in the last five games.
For the most part, Colorado’s defense held USC superstar JuJu Watkins in check. She scored 20 points on 22 shots from the field before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
CU is now 16-2 overall (6-1 Pac-12) and 4-2 against ranked teams this season.
Colorado will head out on the road later this week to face the Pac-12’s Oregon schools.
