The No. 24 Oklahoma Sooners defeated the No. 9 Alabama Crimson Tide, 66-61, in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Saturday in Norman.

In one of the more physical games of the college basketball season, this was close throughout until the Sooners went up 12 points with around eight minutes remaining in the game.

However, the Crimson Tide ripped off an 11-0 run to cut OU’s lead to just one point. Unfortunately for Alabama, its hot streak ended as the Tide didn’t manage to make one field goal in the final four minutes of action despite several good looks at the basket.

The Crimson Tide had several opportunities late, down just one point, and kept opting for 3-point attempts. Despite getting several second-chance attempts, Oklahoma’s defense held firm, and the Crimson Tide lost their first basketball game since Dec. 19, snapping a 10-game winning streak.

Alabama shot just 38.9% percent from the field, including 10 of 28 from beyond the arc. The Crimson Tide missed their final six attempts from 3-point range.

Senior forward Alex Reese led Alabama with 15 points, while sophomore guard Jaden Shackelford scored 14 points.

Alabama’s leading scorer, John Petty Jr., scored nine points.

The Crimson Tide are back in action on Wednesday when they host LSU in Tuscaloosa.
