No. 2 2026 safety includes Washington among top schools

The Washington Huskies made the list for 2026 safety Zechariah Fort.

Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff is building for 2025 and beyond on the recruiting trail. The Huskies already have two commits in the 2026 class, running back Ansu Sanoe and kicker C.J. Wallace, and are looking to make more early additions.

While he probably isn’t a candidate to commit very soon, safeties coach Vinnie Sunseri has made sure Washington is in the running for one of the nation’s top players at the position, IMG Academy’s Zechariah Fort.

Fort is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 safety and No. 45 overall player by 247Sports On Friday, the rising junior cut his list of offers from 33 to 13, including the Huskies among some of the nation’s elite programs like Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio State.

He is one of the most sought-after players in the country and Sunseri did an impressive job building a relationship with him after extending an offer to the 5-foot-10, 190-pound prospect in May. Even after just two years of high school football, Fort has accrued some impressive accolades.

Not only was he named a MaxPreps Freshman All-American, but he became the first freshman team captain in IMG’s prestigious history. It won’t be easy for Sunseri to reel in his commitment, but he’s shown that he is great at building relationships with prospects and could keep the Huskies in the running for Fort’s services.
