Arkansas softball’s fortunes may be turning.
After being swept by Texas A&M in their SEC opener, the Razorbacks took two of three from Alabama in weekend No. 2. On Friday, with No. 10 Florida in Fayetteville, the winning ways continued.
Hannah Gammill hit two home runs to lead Arkansas past the Gators, 6-2, in the series opener.
Gammmill’s first of the game came in the fourth. With Arkansas trailing 1-0, she tied things as the first batter of the inning. Cylie Halvorson then singled and advanced to second base on a passed ball, third on a wild pitch, then scored on a fielder’s choice. Atalyia Rijo knocked in the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly and the Razorbacks would not look back.
Chenise Delce pitched all seven innings, giving up the first run on a groundout and the second on an Arkansas error. The Razorbacks’ ace gave up five hits and four walks to go with her six strikeouts.
Gammill tacked on her insurance homer in the fifth, another solo shot.
The two teams are set for Game 2 at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
